This book contains excerpts from the personal diaries of John Lawton during the war years 1939 to 1945. In this period, John was headmaster of the old village school and acted as Head Air Raid Warden and his detailed description of school and village life, of the people he lived and worked with, and of the progress of the war make fascinating reading. The Index of Names contains many references to local people.

Transcribed and edited by his son Ray Lawton in 2006, it is in A4 soft-cover format with 228 pages and has some illustrations.
